Lab Write Up

Question: Which of the following light sources will allow a plant to absorb more water; No light, heat lamp, or sitting in a window seal.
Hypothesis: The plant under the heat lamp will absorb more water because the light source is stronger and has a higher temperature than the other light sources.
Materials: 3 plants 4 vases
water mL beaker
heat lamp
Safety: The heat lamp in this lab may get hot and could burn you. Please handle with care and caution.
Procedure:
1. Put 4 of the same plant in 4 seperate vases filled with 40 mL of water.
2. Put 40mL of water in an empty vase and do not put a plant in. Record the amount of water left after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and one hour for the control.
3. Leave vase 1 in no direct light source. Measure the amount of water left in the vase after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 1 hour.
4. Put vase 2 on a window seal and measure the amount of water left in the vase after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 1 hour. Be sure to put ithe vase n a window that has light coming through it (remove curtains). Record the data.
5. Put vase 3 under the heat lamp and measure the amount of water left in the vase after 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 1 hour. Record your data.
6. Repeat steps 2-4 three times for trials.
Controlled Variables: Type of plant, amount of water, time allowed to absorb.
Independant variable: light source
Dependant variable: amount of water absorbed
Experimental Control: 40 mL of water without plant
